March 703-4

This car was bought around 9-10 years ago from Bernard de Dreyver, who competed in two World Championship Formula One Grands Prix (the Belgian Grand Prix in 1977 and 1978). My late father-in-law purchased it in its current specification. It features an F3 space frame chassis with a Hewland 5-speed gearbox and what I believe to be a 1600 cc BDA engine with twin Weber carbs. The engine was prepared by Richardson (UK) in 2013.

When acquired, the car was blue but was repainted red. Although not raced by my father-in-law, he drove it in 2 or 3 test/track days and some historic demonstration events, the last of which was in 2014.

Below is the car's main history, with information taken from the Oldracingcars.com website:

1970: New to Ed Reeves for F3, delivered in March with a Holbay engine and blue bodywork. Raced extensively in British F3 and some European races.
1971: Sold to Roger Hurst (Folkestone, Kent) of Lenham Hurst Racing Organisation and fitted with a Rowland twin cam for the new 1600cc F3.
1971: Sold to 19-year-old Formula Ford driver Richard Croucher (Kent) in October, intended for use in F3 with a Piper engine in 1972. Entered in a few races as the Lenham LM1.
1974/75: Converted to Formula Ford 2000 specification by Hurst.
1975: Presumably entered by Brian Davis.
1977/78: Sold to Tim Campbell but unraced by him.

I have had the car inspected by a reputable marque expert, who advised that it is an original, unmolested chassis and body with a nose cone for the front wings. The uprights are not original 703 specifications but are 708/718 March FFord uprights with steel brake callipers. The car was converted to FF2000 specification by the late Roger Hurst.

Viewing is advised in Lille, France (around 1 hour from Calais).
